It is a huge stone which gives fantastica real estate to sharpen on. When used with the Tsushima nagura as a tomo nagura, it really excels and has a very dark black slurry. I got this originally thinking it would be on the medium-hard side, but find that mine is on the very hard spectrum. It takes a bit to get the slurry going, but once you do it is easy to use and creates a very fine edge.
